Grupology is Expanding!

Dear Friends,
I’m excited to announce that Grupology is expanding! This August, our downtown Burlingame location will welcome a sister location in San Mateo, near Central Park.
This expansion means more than a new address; it means we can keep offering the academic enrichment, personalized tutoring, chess programs, and camps our families love. We've also been listening to the needs of our community, and are laying the groundwork to expand into educational therapy. We’re looking forward to supporting even more learners down the line.
This exciting milestone has made me reflect on how Grupology began.
Years ago, I was preparing to pursue my Master of Arts in Teaching at the USC Rossier School of Education when a career and college counselor gave me unexpected advice. She told me I already had enough experience to teach and, because of my diverse background, I should consider starting an education company instead. It was a lightbulb moment.
One spark of encouragement, and a new purpose caught fire.
The idea of starting Grupology had always lingered in my mind, but I needed someone to help quiet my inner critic. My dear friend, former colleague, and former science teacher, Sami Ahn, was the one who gave me the confidence to finally take the leap.
Seven years later, as we prepare to open our second location, that one nudge from Sami still echoes.
If I'm honest, opening a new location is both exciting and intimidating. While we've outgrown our current space, this next chapter is a huge undertaking. I'm still afraid of failing. But I was afraid seven years ago, too, and that fear didn't stop me then. Intrinsic motivation is important, but having people who believe in you makes all the difference. Sometimes, all you need is one great cheerleader.
I used to be a cheerleader and a banker, and perhaps life has come full circle. Today, my role looks a little different. Instead of cheering from the sidelines, I have the privilege of helping students believe in themselves, discover their strengths, and reach their potential—all in a space that was once a bank. That, more than anything, is what Grupology has always been about.
To our incredible staff, families, partner schools, and community: thank you for believing in Grupology. Your trust, encouragement, and support have made this next chapter possible. We are deeply grateful to be part of your families' educational journeys, and we can't wait to welcome you to our new San Mateo home.
